McAllen, TX – The McAllen Thunder of the North American League announced today that the contract of right-handed pitcher Robert Roth has been purchased by the Atlanta Braves.
Roth signed a three-year contract with Atlanta and will report to the Rome Braves, the single A affiliate of the Braves, with the South Atlantic League.
“Mr. Roth has joined one of the best organizations in baseball and he should do very well,” said Thunder Manager Matt Stark.
The Lewiston, Idaho native appeared in 15 games for the Thunder with a 1-1 record and one save while posting a 3.48 ERA. He struck out 42 batters in 20.1 innings and walked just five.
“It is a big loss for us but it’s a good thing. First and foremost for the young kid and secondly for the league,” Stark continued. “He deserves it and we will cheer him on and we wish him the best.”
The Thunder will continue their four-game series with the Edinburg Roadrunners tonight at Edinburg Baseball Stadium with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
