Perhaps the biggest game tonight is the girls’ La Joya at Mission as so much is on the line. If the Lady Coyotes can squeak out a win, thus giving them a season sweep over the Lady Eagles and a two-game lead in the standings, then La Joya can celebrate as it will find itself in the postseason.
Mission on the other hand is playing with its postseason life in the balance. However, the Lady Eagles are looking to get themselves off life support by garnering a victory tonight. Rene Garza’s squad has won four in a row, including a home victory over McHi last Tuesday. The last time these two teams met, La Joya squeaked by with a 34-31 victory.
Staying with the girls’ side of things, Shary’s matchup with Memorial is not likely to be a great game but is crucial nonetheless. The Lady Rattlers are fighting to keep their second-place standing as they are only one game ahead of both McHi and La Joya.
For the boys, perhaps the biggest game is between Palmview and Nikki Rowe. The Lobos are continuing the toughest part of their schedule as they will face the district’s other top four teams in their last five games. The first of those games was played on Tuesday in a loss to the district’s top team Sharyland. A home win tonight over head coach Andy Saenz’s alma mater would be huge. Tied with Memorial in the standings, Palmview also has McHi nipping at its heels just two games behind.
The next biggest game is Shary’s visit to Memorial. The Rattlers have won nine straight games, including an 11 point win over the Mustangs a couple weeks ago. A win would keep Shary at the top of the standings but also help out Palmview.
The last big game is that of Juarez-Lincoln and their welcome to Mercedes tonight. The Huskies are one game behind fourth placed Weslaco East but head coach Eric Montolvo’s team possesses the tiebreaker over the Wildcats. Thus an East loss to Brownsville Veterans Memorial and a Husky win would greatly help Juarez’s cause.blog comments powered by Disqus
