Sharyland clinches at least share of district title

20110419-Sharyland-v-Mission-Baseball-054What better team to beat than La Joya to clinch a share of the district title? For Sharyland it is sweet. After six years of straight district championships, the Coyotes have been dethroned and the hitters of Sharyland have risen in their place.

The Rattlers took down the Coyotes on Tuesday, 9-2, to complete a season sweep of their rivals. In fact, the win puts Paul Cruz's squad on a three-game win streak against the former district champs.

Sharyland sweeps 30-5A, Palmview finishes strong

20110411_District-30-5A-Track_BN3G1622These Rattlers are fast. Whether male, female, freshman, sophomore, junior or senior, doesn't matter. The boys and girls squads of Sharyland Track and Field proved to be tops in 30-5A when both teams took home the first place hardware at the District 30-5A meet this week at La Joya.

For the boys, the domination was due mostly to its runners. However, Roberto Salinas took home first in the discus throw (150-0), contributing to the team’s overall score of 210. The team’s outstanding overall score broke the district record of 189 set last year by the Rattlers.

Soccer playoff action over for Shary, Juarez

20110408-J-L-v-Valley-View-Boys-Soccer-037In one final swoop every local boys and girls soccer team was removed from the playoffs. Just like that – the soccer season is over.

All felt the disappointment of failing to advance but none more than the Sharyland and Juarez-Lincoln boys. Both programs made fantastic runs in 2010, both dominated their districts in equally embarrassing fashion in 2011 and both went home early.

Sharyland Rattlers ranked no. 5 in state

20110401-Baseball-Shary-at-LaJoya-01Last year it was McHi; this year it is Sharyland.

In 2010, the McHi Bulldogs were the dominating baseball team of the Valley. Backed by strong pitching, the Bulldogs ruled District 30-5A, positioned themselves as one of the top teams in the state, and then made a solid run to the regional semifinals.
