Magdalene Evelyn Sekula Bledsoe, 88, passed away Sunday, May 15, 2011.
The fourth child of Edward and Barbara Sekula's nine children, Maggie was born on June 10, 1922 in Kosciusko. She moved with her family to the Valley where they settled with other Polish families in the settlement of McCook. She married James Bledsoe and had four sons, John, Jim, Bill and Bobby. She was a devout Catholic and an active parishioner at St. Jude's Catholic Church in Pharr for many years.
She is survived by her sons, Jim (Kathy) Bledsoe of Mission and Bill (Ellen) Bledsoe of Arroyo City. She adored her six grandchildren, Laura (John) Ralbovsky of San Antonio, Lisa (Ross) McLaren of Dallas, Valerie Ware of Corpus Christi, Bobby Bledsoe of Arroyo City, Tara Connell (Vince Abrego) of Mission, and Tasha (Brent) Kaz of Spring; and seven great-grandchildren, Katherine, Patrick, and Elliott Ralbovsky, Drew McLaren, Ty Ware, Vincent Abrego and Tori Kaz.
Surviving siblings include: Frances (Wency) Kotara of San Antonio; Victoria Kowalik of Victoria; Lucy Dorff of McAllen; Alice Keller of McCook; sister in-law, Mary Lou (Morris) Sheitelman of Mission; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sons, John and Bobby Bledsoe; former husband, James Bledsoe; brother, Tom Sekula; three sisters, Irene Skloss, Mary Kotzur, and Elizabeth Kotzur; mother in-law, Lula Frances Reed; and brother in-law, Stanley Reed.
The family especially wishes to recognize and thank Dr. Alvaro Giraldo and staff and The Village Care and Lifecare Hospital of McAllen for their wonderful care.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 18, from 5-8 p.m. at Kreidler Funeral Home in McAllen with a rosary to be recited at 7 p.m.
Rites of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday, May 19, at 10 a.m. at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Mission. Interment will follow at Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Andy Skloss, Pat Kotzur, Vince Abrego, John Ralbovsky, John Robbins and Kenny Reger.
