ALTON – Leonard J. Simons, 81, passed away Tuesday, May 10, 2011, at Rio Grande Regional Hospital in McAllen.
He was born in Telfare Hospital in Savannah, Georgia on November 4, 1929 to Clarence and Evelyn Simons. He was a Southern Baptist minister and medical missionary. He and his wife Goldie were founders of Christian Charity Care Center Medical Mission in Alton and in Mexico.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Goldie Simons of Alton; daughters, Goldie Simons Ruiz of Liverpool and Geoyce Simons of Alton; son-in-law, Jesus Ruiz; grandchildren, Anna Maria Lozano, Elizabeth Marie Ruiz, and John Leonard Simons Ruiz; great-grandchild, Averie Lizette Lozano; and four sisters.
Visitation will be held Thursday, May 12, from 3-9 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service at Ric Brown Family Funeral Home Chapel in Mission. A funeral service will be held May 13 at 2 p.m. at same location. Interment follows at the Rio Grande Valley State Veteran Cemetery in Mission.
