PALMVIEW – Guadalupe "Sonny" Hernandez, 65, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2013, after battling cancer.
A resident of Palmview, Mr. Hernandez was born on July 31, 1948, in Raymondville. He retired from Schlumberger after 27 years of service. He was a volunteer fireman with the Palmview Volunteer Fire Dept. for the past 12 years.
Survivors include his wife, Letty Lopez-Hernandez; children, Sonny Hernandez III, John David Hernandez and Christina Hernandez; sister, Imelda Gallegos; half- sister, Lucy Reyna; and 18 grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Maria de Leon-Hernandez and Guadalupe Hernandez Sr., and first wife, Paula Hernandez.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, Sept. 19, and Friday, Sept. 20, from 1 to 9 p.m. with a rosary at 7 p.m. at Virgil Wilson Mortuary chapel in Mission. The funeral mass will be held on Saturday, Sept. 21, at 9:15 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Mission. Interment will follow at Rio Grande City Cemetery in Rio Grande City.
