MISSION - William Newcomb Alexander, born Sept. 4, 1908 in Austin, died at the age of 102 in Mission on Tuesday, April 5, 2011.
He was a lifelong member of the Episcopal Church. He married Mae Belle Hausenfluke in Bastrop County on July 16, 1938. He served in the Navy during Word War II and went on to work for the City of Austin as head of the print shop until his retirement in 1970. He was a charter member of the Austin Gem and Mineral Society.
Mr. Newcomb is survived by his daughters, Connie Walsh and Kathy Woodmansee; six grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter.
Preceding him in death were his sisters, Margaret Watson, Maribel Alsup and Geraldine Sammis.
The funeral service was held April 9 at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home. Internment followed at Forest Oaks Memorial Park. Pastor Hugh Beck officiated. Ric Brown Family Funeral Home in Mission was in charge of local arrangements.
