Elaine Ross Midkiff, age 78, musician, teacher, and beloved mother, died August 25th, 2012 in her Georgetown, TX homeElaine was born on September 6, 1933 in North Vasselboro, Maine. She was the oldest daughter of her Methodist pastor father, Leo F. Ross, and mother Mabel Lena Ross. The family spent her early years in Maine and moved to Texas when she was 10 years old where her father was pastor of several churches in the Southwest Texas Conference.
Elaine graduated from Columbus high school and attended the St. Louis Institute of Music where she received a degree in music education and piano. An outstanding and talented pianist, she was a church organist for 50 years.
Elaine received her master's degree in education at Pan American College in Edinburg, TX and was an educational diagnostician with the Mission CISD and La Joya ISD until she retired at the age of 73.
Elaine loved to travel and spent much of her retirement years traveling the world.
Elaine is survived by her son, Michael Midkiff, his wife Donna Midkiff, and grandsons John, Thomas, and Christian Midkiff, all of Round Rock, TX; her daughter, Susan Midkiff Kullerd of Georgetown, TX and grandson Ben Kullerd of Austin; a brother, James Ross of Las Vegas, NV; and her sister, Cecelia Simmons of Albuquerque, NM.
Elaine was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Hurla Midkiff, and her brother, Fletcher Ross of Edisto Island, SC.
A memorial service and celebration of Elaine's life will be held on Saturday, September 8th, at the First United Methodist Church (FUMC) of Mission, TX at 2:00 p.m.
