OBIT: Blaine H. Holcomb

McALLEN - Blaine H. Holcomb was born August 13, 1919 in Malvern, Arkansas and died Monday, June 18, 2012.

He married Andree Meserole on July 22, 1939 in San Antonio. There were married for 66 years until her death on June 9, 2006. After serving in the U.S. Navy in WWII they moved to the Mission-McAllen area in 1946 for him to manage the Shary-Shivers family interests, which he did for more than 62 years. He was a certified public accountant actively involved in citrus, banking, civic and professional organizations.

Mr. Holcomb was past president of the Rio Grande Valley CPA's, Mission Chamber of Commerce, Tower Club of McAllen and Mission Lion's Club. He was past chairman of Texas Valley Citrus Committee, Texas A&M-Kingsville Citrus Advisory Board, and a Texas Citrus Mutual Board member. He was a director for more than 42 years with First State Bank, Mission, and advisory director of Texas State Bank, McAllen. He was also a former director of Valley Federal Savings & Loan, McAllen.

He was former President of Hidalgo County Water District # 19 for 40 years and was honored with the Texas Citrus Mutual "Grower Award" in 1986, Texas Growers & Shippers "Hall of Fame" award in 1990 and Texas Citrus Fiesta King Citrus in 1964. He was a former director and president of the McAllen Country Club.

Survivors include his sons, Jim Holcomb of Houston, David Holcomb of San Antonio and Steve Holcomb of Montgomery; daughter, Kathy Toothaker of Denton; brother, Jack Holcomb of Progresso; and two granddaughters and one great-granddaughter.

Visitation will be held Thursday, June 21, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Kreidler Funeral Home in McAllen. Interment follows at Valley Memorial Gardens on Taylor Road in a private family ceremony.

In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested that memorial contributions be made to the Texas Citrus Foundation, 900 Expressway, Mission, TX 78572.
