MISSION - Maria Olivia Gorena, 90, passed away on Saturday, March 10, 2012.
Ms. Gorena spent 34 years of her life as a special education teacher at the PSJA School District and was a supporter of the Special Olympics. As a pianist and organist, she was a piano teacher, and served as choral director for Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
Ms. Gorena is survived by her sister, Ludivina G. Valverde.
She was preceded in death by parents, Alfredo Zeferino and Olivia Martinez Gorena; her sister, Ella Margarita Gorena; and brother, Jose Alfredo Gorena.
Visitation will begin Tuesday, March 13, from 5 to 9 p.m. with a 7 p.m. rosary. The funeral mass will be held at 12 p.m., on Wednesday, March 14, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. Interment follows at Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to any St. Jude's organization and/or to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
