MISSION - James R. "Jim" Allen, 83, of Mission died Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2012.
He was born on January 25, 1929 in Bradley, Arkansas and graduate from Bradley High School at age 17. He graduated from Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas at age 20 went on to his graduate studies at the University of Oklahoma.
Mr. Allen was a member of the First Baptist Church in McAllen. He moved to Mission from Harlingen in 1999 where he was a member of the First Baptist Church in HarIingen. He was active in nursing home ministry in Harlingen and McAllen.
He began his civil service career after serving four years in the U. S. Air Force during the Korean War. He first worked with the Department of the Interior, National Park Service. In 1961, he transferred to the Federal Aviation Administration in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and retired in 1979. Following his retirement, he continued working part-time from 1981 to 1991 at Allen Industrial Supply in Mission with his son Michael Allen.
Survivors include his wife, Wilma Faye Allen of Mission; son, Michael Allen; and two granddaughters.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Madison and Sigel Allen, and brothers, John M. Allen and Paul T. Burke.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 17, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 18, at the First Baptist Church in McAllen with Pastor Shannon Talley and Dr. Bill Sutton officiating. Entombment will follow at the Roselawn Cemetery in McAllen.
