LA JOYA – Domingo Martinez, 71, passed away Friday, Jan. 7, 2011 at his residence. Mr. Martinez was born in La Joya on July 2, 1939 to Pedro and Sinforosa T. Martinez.
Mr. Martinez served his country in the U.S. Army for five years. While serving, he was awarded the Good Conduct Medal. He completed his 43rd Medical Group training at Madigan General Hospital in Tacoma, Washington and served in the 51st Field Hospital. He was honorably discharged in July of 1969. He was an active member of the Honor Guard in VFW Post 3895 in La Joya.
Survivors include his sisters, Juanita M. Garza, Viola Martinez and Eulalia T. Martinez.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his brothers, Raul Martinez, Jose Martinez, Pedro Martinez Jr., Amador Martinez, and Rodolfo Martinez; and his sisters, Rosa Reyna and Hortencia M. Garza.
The funeral mass was held Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2011 at 1 p.m. at Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church in La Joya. Burial followed at the R.G.V. State Veterans Cemetery in Mission. Funeral arrangements were under the care of L&I Funeral Home in Peñitas.
Pallbearers were Javier Garza, Gabriel Garza, Mario Reyna, Ruben Martinez, Leonel E. Reyna, and Rodolfo Martinez Jr.
