MISSION - Alma Beatriz de la Garza, 68, left to be with our Lord on Sunday, Oct. 23, 2011 at Mission Regional Medical Center.
She was born to Remigio Escobar, Jr. and Agustina Moreno on Feb. 12, 1943 in Granjeno, Texas.
Alma was a very beautiful and caring woman known by many and loved by all. Alma's passion was her deep faith, her family especially her best friend and her only daughter, Anabel. With Anabel and her favorite son-in-law, Serjio, Alma had it all, and she needed nothing. She loved her three sons, Angel or Angelio as she called him, Alan and Aaron. She is now reunited with her sons, Alan and Aaron. She adored all seven of her grandchildren as they were her pride and joy.
Alma also had many other children that surrounded her life. Her "special" kids that she worked her whole life for. She devoted her life and time to them since 1972. They were her angels. Special Olympics was in her heart and soul up to the day she left this earth.
Alma was a very forgiving woman and always prayed for everyone that crossed her path, even if she did not know you. She had this power that she knew exactly when you needed a prayer, a friendly smile or just a shoulder to cry on. She was a kind of woman that she would give up her time and of herself just "because" and never expected anything in return. She touched many, many hearts and will continue to do so with the wonderful memories that she has left behind. She will be greatly missed.
Alma loved to travel and was fortunate to visit many places and experience different cultures. She had many stories to share and she was indeed a great storyteller. She has now begun her new journey with the Lord.
Left to cherish her memory is her loving daughter, Anabel (Serjio) Sanchez of Palmhurst; son, Angel (Imelda) de la Garza of Mission; grandchildren, Durenda, Adah and Micah Sanchez of Palmhurst, Jason, Michael and Isaac de la Garza of Mission, and Andrea de la Garza of Houston; brother, Remigio (Lydia) Escobar III of Rogers, Arkansas; and sister, Rosa Linda (Ernesto) Reyes of Pleasanton.
She was preceded in death by her father, Remigio Escobar, Jr.; brother, Jorge Escobar; and sons, Francisco Alan de la Garza and Aaron de la Garza.
The funeral service was held Wednesday, Oct. 26, at 10 a.m. at Freedom Life Church in Mission. Interment will follow at Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery in McAllen.
Serving as pallbearers were Angel de la Garza, Michael de la Garza, Osvaldo Arteaga, Jr., Remigio Escobar III, Serjio Sanchez and Randy Davila. Honorary pallbearers will be Micah Benjamin Sanchez, Ernesto Reyes and Isaac de la Garza.
