MISSION - Ernest James “Jimmy” Cowart, 75, of Mission, passed away September 3, 2011 at The Bridges.
Mr. Cowart was born in 1935 in central Florida, the son of William and Agnes Cowart. He came to south Texas driving a truck in 1956 where he became a truck broker for Crumpler & Sons Truck Brokerage in Pharr, shipping produce out of the Rio Grande Valley, and later went into business for himself moving freight. He started TCI, a flatbed trucking operation, with his son in the late 1980s. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Edinburg.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Lee Cowart of Texas; children, Belinda Stapleton of Tennessee, Vicki Lynn Krska of Texas, and William Cowart of Texas; stepdaughter, Crystal Reven of Pearland; grandchildren, Bradley Garrett, Leanne Storm, Matthew Krska, Katie Krska, Christopher Krska, Darlene Stapleton, Walter Gordon, Jeniffer Cowart, James Cowart, and Stephanie Cowart; great-grandchildren, Makena Storm and Kaylee Gordon; and siblings, Esther Smith and Linda June Cowart.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William T. and Agnes Cowart; grandson, Michael Lambert; and siblings, William Thomas Cowart, Lillian Cowart, and Jack Cowart.
A funeral service is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 8, at First Baptist, 201 E. Samano, Edinburg, at 10 a.m., with Dr. Mark D. Rotramel officiating. Interment will be Palm Valley Memorial Gardens, 4607 N. Sugar Rd., Edinburg.
Pallbearers will be Edward Marsh, Javier Flores, Andy Stapleton, Bradley Garrett, Walter Gordon, and James Cowart. A reception will be held at the church following the service.
