MCISDlogoThe Mission CISD Board of Trustees awarded the Mission Collegiate High School contract to E-Con Group at its regular meeting.

Rick Rivera, executive director for maintenance, facilities and construction, said his department negotiated the cost of the project down by $67,000.

“The group also reduced the number of days for completion,” Rivera said. “They were the lowest proposal with the alternates. They also did two projects for us: the ag building addition at Veterans Memorial High School and the Waitz Elementary kitchen dining addition, and they did excellent.”

Completion date of the project is set for July 2015; Rivera said the project would start in the first week of July 2014. The best and final offer from the group was estimated at $12.6 million.

The district also has plans for multiple projects at Tom Landry Stadium. Currently, the stadium is receiving a new turf and track, but Rivera said after looking into ADA requirements added seats are necessary as well. Thirty-six seats would need to be added to the home side, while 30 seats need to be added to the visitors side.

“Currently we only have four (ADA approved seats) on each side,” Rivera said. “We are advertising requests for qualifications. This will be a design-build project. We are waiting to see how many proposals we receive for this project.”

Superintendent Ricardo Lopez said the ramps at the stadium would have to be redone as well because they also do not meet ADA requirements.

“These are high-grade bleachers we have. Believe it or not, they are quality,” Lopez said. “It’s costing a lot of money to cut out sections and put in a new section. We want to get one big project in, but it might be cheaper just to get new bleachers with the ADA compliance.”

An update was given at this month’s facilities meeting for the district’s new administration building. Rivera said the building would be just east of the current building in the parking lot area with a construction cost of $8.8 million.

The current administration building would be demolished, according to Rivera. He added they would try to keep the majority of the property’s trees.

“We also would like to make walking trails, something that would be aesthetically pleasing to the neighborhood and to the city of Mission,” Rivera said.
