The silent auction is to be held at the Blue Ribbon Fashion Show Gala hosted by the Angels of Love Foundation, a McAllen non-profit organization created to help children who are neglected or abused around the Rio Grande Valley.
This year Angels of Love helped the children with events such as: Blue Ribbon 5K Run/Walk, 1Mile Kids Run, Buy a Brick Capital Campaign, a pizza party and the upcoming fashion show gala.
The Blue Ribbon Fashion Show Gala will be held today at Mario’s Ballroom at 6 p.m. Link’s art students will be donating artwork to follow the theme of this year’s fashion show, “Wish Upon a Butterfly.”
“Della Fay Perez-Rodriguez, from the Angels of Love Foundation, read an article that ran in The Monitor about our Sharyland art students creating and donating art for the Mission Police Department’s annual ‘Kops for Kids’ event and asked if we could do the same for the Angels of Love,” Link said. “After reviewing the information sent to us about the foundation, my students and I decided it would be an honor to produce pieces for their silent auction. The proceeds will go toward helping abused children throughout the Rio Grande Valley.”
Link and her students have been working hard to create beautiful pieces of art on their own time.
“I think it is important to get students involved in community projects to help others,” she said. “They learn about giving selflessly from the heart.”
SHS junior Denisse Sierra is one of the students contributing artwork to this event. Through the use of multifaceted coloration, her art piece shows different species of butterflies chaotically fluttering through a kaleidoscope of decorative colors.
“It’s thoughtful that Mrs. Link is participating in this event, and I feel honored to be part of it, too,” said Sierra. “I’m really happy to spend my time doing my art for a good cause.”
