ALTON—The Alton City Commission adopted an ordinance on Feb. 5 to prepare for the General Election to be held on May 11.
The election in May is for positions of City Commissioner Place 2, City Commissioner Place 3 and City Commissioner Place 4.
Currently, the commission holds Ricardo Garza for Commissioner Place 2, Richard Arevalo for Commissioner Place 3 and Emilio Cantu Jr. for Commissioner Place 4.
Assistant City Manager Steve Peña explained the city needed to adopt the final work plan for 2013 with the Urban County Program. The budget total from the program is $278,900.
The largest portion of the budget will be allocated to a loan payment on the Recreation Center at $263,068. A total of $15,000 will be used to provide direct services to the elderly, which includes transportation to medical facilities, delivery of meals and pick up/drop off services.
An amount of $832 will be used for expenses related to the implementation of the Community Development Block Grant requirements, which includes advertisements, postings and coordinating project activities. The commission adopted the final work plan.
In other new business, three terms ended with the City of Alton Development Corporation board.
“We have a two-year term on appointed members to the board, and at this point we have three individuals who would need either reappointment or need to appoint another,” Peña said.
The decision was made to reappoint the individuals to keep the board as is. CADC board members Ricardo Garza, Calixto Hernandez and Arturo Galvan Jr. will remain active for another two terms.blog comments powered by Disqus
