MISSION – Mission Junior High and Mission High School were under a lockdown Wednesday afternoon while Mission Police Officers searched for an aggravated robbery suspect. The suspect was caught a short time later near the 1300 block of Conway.

Before 2 p.m., Wednesday, officers responded to a call at the popular Luau restauant, located at Doherty and 11th Street in Mission. Employees of the Luau told officers they had been robbed at gunpoint. The robber left with an undisclosed amount of money.

Mission Police Chief Martin Garza said after receiving a description of the man, officers reporting to the area set off a perimeter to search for an individual in blue jeans and blue hoodie riding a white bicycle.

Garza said because of the nature of the incident, he ordered a lockdown of the schools in the area as a precautionary measure.

The bicycle was found in the west alleyway of the 1300 block of Conway. Garza said three men were also in the area of the bicycle. When officers approached, one man ran and was later caught by officers and detained.

The weapon was also recovered. Garza said it wasn’t a real firearm, but because of the intention of the robbery, it still makes it an aggravated robbery. It doesn’t matter if the weapon was a working weapon or not, added Garza.

The suspect was expected to go before the judge for an arraignment after press time.
