EDINBURG — Days after finally approving redistricting maps and selecting a primary election date of May 29, party chairs in Hidalgo County met to discuss important deadlines for candidates and voters.
Hidalgo County Elections Administrator Yvonne Ramon said candidates have only a few days to file for office now that the boundaries have been set. Candidates who have already submitted their applications and any other documents like campaign reports are still valid. The deadline to file is Friday, March 9 at 6 p.m.
Democratic Chair Dolly Elizondo-Garcia said the McAllen office would be open through the weekend for applicants.

“We’re going to be accessible” to all potential candidates, she said.
Republican Chair Javier Villalobos said candidates looking to submit their applications could do so at his law office located at 5804 N. 23rd St. in McAllen. For more information, call 956-687-4000.
