University study seeks to understand younger Winter Texans

201300215 Winter-Texan-SurveyLocal community leaders, businesses and RV resorts want to know more about Winter Texans – particularly those of the Baby Boomer generation. A new study created by the Valley Markets and Tourism Research Center at the University of Texas-Pan American is designed to help researchers gather important data that will help local cities, mobile home and RV resort owners, and others meet the needs and interests of the next generation of Winter Texans.

Dr. Penney Simpson, director of the Valley Markets and Tourism Research Center, said this study would benefit Winter Texans by communicating to community leaders what Winter Texans want and need.

Dr. Simpson said, “This study is to benefit Winter Texans and hopefully will lead to the changes they want through improved facilities, activities and even things such as sidewalks…. The purpose of the survey is to make sure the parks and the community are filling the needs of the younger Winter Texans.”

The survey, which can be completed online at the university’s website, asks questions such as: How did you first hear about the Valley before you started coming? Which reasons made you decide to start coming to the Valley?

The survey also seeks information about the RV or mobile home park amenities and other aspects that are most important to Winter Texans.

Winter Texans are asked to rate the importance of certain characteristics of a park when deciding where to stay. Survey respondents are also asked to check which features they must have to consider staying in that park.

The researchers also want to know how satisfied you are with the RV/mobile home park in which you currently live, how likely you are to recommend your current community to a friend, and what suggestions you have to improve your current resident community.

The full survey consists of about 34 questions, all designed to help local communities better meet the needs and interests of Winter Texans.

To complete the survey and for a chance to win a Kindle Fire, go online to and click the arrow button beneath the text explaining the survey. The university assures respondents that all responses will be treated confidentially and stored on a secure server. The study results will be reported collectively, and no individual responses will be identified.

The respondent’s name and phone number or email are required only if the person desires to enter the drawing for a Kindle Fire. To qualify for the Kindle Fire drawing, Winter Texans must complete the survey by Feb. 26.
