20130719 Primitave-SkillsVisitors to Quinta Mazatlan World Birding Center can explore “Primitive Skills” on Thursday, July 25, at 7 p.m. as they learn about the Thornforest before it was agricultural and urban development. They can participate in several primitive skill demonstrations including archery, animal tracking and identifying edible plants.

The Rio Grande Valley is affected by four different climates: the dessert to the West, the temperate to the North, the tropical to the South and the coastal to the East. This assembly of climates creates a unique ecosystem where plants and animals found nowhere else once thrived. Quinta Mazatlan offers a step back in time to see the Rio Grande Valley as it used to be—a Tamaulipan Brushland, also known as Thornforest, full of life.

The admission fee is $2 for adults and $1 for seniors and children. Quinta Mazatlan is located at 600 Sunset in McAllen. For more information, call 681-3370.
