VMHS Harlequins to hold performances of state-qualifying one act play

The Veterans Memorial High School (VMHS) Harlequins have scheduled public performances of their district and regional winning, state-qualifying one act play. The troupe will perform “The Circus Animals’ Desertion,” by Don Nigro. The play is set in the 1940s and is an eerie story of a young lady who leaves a trail of chaos.

The performances will be held on Wednesday, May 29, at 4:30 p.m. and at 7:30 p.m. Tickets will be available at the door for $5 each.

This is the second year in a row the Harlequins have advanced to state-level UIL competitions and only the second time since 1935 a one act play from the Mission CISD has made it to state. At the state competition, the Harlequins placed seventh. Alex Hinojosa earned an All-Star Cast medal for his performance there. Anna Olivarez received an Honorable Mention All-Star Cast medal for her performance.

Members of the Harlequins One Act Play are Alex Hinojosa, Kimberly Stewart, Anna Olivarez, Katharyn Rodriguez, Beto Cantu, Karina Gamboa, Esai Garcia, Micaela Cantu, Emily Cantu, Sara Olivarez, Marisol Cervantes, Clarissa Garza, Jorge Ortiz, Carlos Tello, Brandon Hernandez, Karla Gastel, Jaime Bazaldua, Geselle Farias, Katian Lopez, Andrea Garcia, Brittany Bazaldua, Alex Hernandez, Miranda Morales and Debanhi Cespedes.
