From the team that brought you Cruzando, brings you Basilica, a new play by Mando Alvarado, directed by Michael Ray Escamilla. The developmental production will have its South Texas premiere: May 12 to May 29, at STC’s Cooper Center for Communication Arts.

Basilica follows the story of the Garza family from San Juan, Texas. They are a nice working class family. And like every church going family, they strive to be the best they can be. But when Gilbert Gonzalez returns as the new Pastor for the Basilica, everyone will be confronted with who they really are and true redemption will escape all but one.

The Randy Rogers Band (RRB) will make a stop in Mission at Las Palmas Race Park tonight at 7 p.m. singing songs from their latest album, Burning the Day. The album hit stores in August and was the second most downloaded album on iTunes (all genres) just under pop superstar Katy Perry. The album was also No. 2 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart. The lead single, “Too Late for Goodbye,” was the most added at radio its first week just behind country super-group Lady Antebellum.

South Texas College’s Mexican American Studies Program, in partnership with the college’s Student Activities Department and Division of Library Services, invites the public to a musical presentation by renowned Mexican group Huehuetl.

The musical presentation will take place Wednesday, May 4 at 7 p.m. at STC’s Starr County Campus Amphitheater located at 142 FM 3167 in Rio Grande City. Admission is free and open to the public. The presentation will be in Spanish.

The McAllen Chamber of Commerce and Casa Guanajuato proudly present “Mariachi Clown,” an unusual and entertaining experience for the whole family. This is a living statues show based on three Mariachi players that on their intent to perform Mexican music end up making a series of scenic games and humorous improvisations.

“Mariachi players are painted in green, white and red respectively bringing the colors of the Mexican flag,” said Luis Cantu, vice president of Inter American Relations for the Chamber. “They wear big moustaches and even their instruments are painted in the same color.”
